Faced with a backlog of cases choking the state courts in South Florida in the past few years, Kluger Kaplan Silverman Katzen & Levine PL partner Abbey Kaplan said he sensed a business opportunity for his firm.

Kluger Kaplan stepped into that opening earlier this month with the announcement that the firm, which focuses on complex commercial litigation, would create a standalone alternative dispute resolution practice, offering up its attorneys as independent arbitrators and mediators in other firms’ cases. Kaplan said the move was spurred both by clients’ increased advantage of resolving cases before trial, and a duty he felt to put his attorneys’ work to good use.
