Minority law school students in Florida are eligible for $15,000 scholarship, summer clerkship at Kluger Kaplan, and post-graduation career opportunities.
Miami, Florida — April 2025 — South Florida-based litigation firm Kluger, Kaplan, Silverman, Katzen & Levine P.L. continues its efforts to promote diversity in the legal sector by announcing the 2025 H.T. Smith Legal Studies Scholarship. Launched in 2021, the scholarship offers eligible law school students in Florida $15,000 in financial assistance, a summer clerkship in Kluger Kaplan’s Miami office, and an opportunity to work as an associate at Kluger Kaplan following graduation and passing the Florida Bar exam.
The H.T. Smith Legal Studies Scholarship recognizes academic excellence and a commitment to civic service by selecting applicants from diverse backgrounds who are entering their second year of law school and are involved in giving back to the Florida community. Eligible universities include the University of Miami, Florida International University, Nova Southeastern University, St. Thomas University, Florida State University, and the University of Florida.
“Kluger Kaplan’s goal with this scholarship is to bring tangible change to South Florida’s legal community and improve minority talent retention in our hometown,” said Alan J. Kluger, founding partner at Kluger Kaplan. “Advancing diversity, access, and inclusion will only happen if we act with intentionality. The legal community has a long way to go, but our hope is that the scholarship will serve as a blueprint for other firms looking to support minority law school students.”
Established in 2021, the scholarship honors H.T. Smith, a trailblazing figure in South Florida’s legal landscape who serves as Founding Director of the Trial Advocacy Program at Florida International University College of Law.
“Miami has emerged as a global business hub, but for our community and the legal profession to make a measurable improvement in diversity and inclusion across the board, law firms of all sizes will need to undertake active and meaningful participation in similar types of programs such as this. It is the cumulative results that will have the greatest impact on increasing diversity in the South Florida legal profession,” said H.T. Smith.
To apply for the scholarship, interested candidates are asked to submit their résumé, current law school transcript, and a 500-word personal statement explaining their background and reasons for applying to info@klugerkaplan.com, with the subject line “H.T. Smith Legal Studies Scholarship.” The application deadline for the 2025-2026 academic year is July 1, 2025.
